ABC's breakout new drama Quantico has made a promising start in the ratings and has now become only the second new fall show to receive an episodic back order. ABC has ordered six more episodes of the FBI themed series starring Bollywood superstar Priyanka Chopra.
The total number of episodes for the first season is now 19, which is slightly less than the 22 episodes which is considered to be the standard number of episodes for a network television programme. However, ABC considers the 19 episodes to be a full season order as it is looking to accommodate a large slate of new drama series for it's fall and mid-season schedule.
There are currently ongoing conversations regarding whether ABC orders additional episodes at a later date. If Quantico's ratings continue to remain steady, ABC is more likely to order additional episodes.
From it's season premiere to date, Quantico ranks as Sunday's No. 1 broadcast entertainment programme in the coveted Adults 18-49 Neilsen ratings demographic. Quantico has improved ABC's 10 o'clock hour by 46%. Quantico is also a big DVR ratings gainer. With TV playback taken into account, an additional 5.0 million viewers are added into the premiere ratings numbers. This increase leads to a 79% gain in viewers in the Adults 18-49 demographic.
While there has yet to be a major break out comedy this season, or a break out 'Empire' sized new drama series, Quantico has been a successful project for ABC thus far. Quantico joins NBC's drama series Blindspot which received the full back 9 episodic order. Other series currently likely to receive back orders are CBS' new drama Limitless and FOX's Rosewood.
UPDATE: Quantico has been renewed for a second season
