What Happened to Madison High?

We all remember High School Musical. Yes, even you reading this right now who is pretending not to remember the cultural phenomenon of all of our childhoods. For those of you who "can't remember" HSM, it was a Disney Channel Original Movie franchise, which eventually had a cinematic sequel, which followed the lives of Troy (Zac Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) and their friends at East High School. Following the release of the third and final movie in 2008, Disney Channel began plotting a way to keep the franchise going.

In 2010, it was rumoured DC was planning to produce a forth movie but plans never materialised (until the sequel was announced earlier this year). However, in the same year Disney Channel announced a pilot for a musical TV series titled Madison High which would be a direct spin-off from HSM. The pilot was envisioned for a premiere in 2012 and was set to star Ms Darbus, the quirky drama teacher from the movies as she moves from East High to Madison High to head their drama department, which would then lead to us meeting a whole new crop of young misfits who have an affinity for breaking out into song and dance.

Over the next two years, the cast was assembled; including G. Hannelius (Dog With A Blog), Katherine McNamara (Shadowhunters) and Luke Benward (Cloud 9) Mark Indelicato (Ugly Betty) and Nolan Sotillo (Red Band Society) and the pilot was filmed and directed by Paul Hoen and was set to feature 4 original songs however there was no news whether the pilot would be picked up to series. Six years on it's safe to say all plans regarding Madison High were cancelled for reasons we are likely to never know.
